OUR LEGACY

SERVING SINCE 1916

History

Kesar Da Dhaba was founded in 1916 in Sheikhupura (now in Pakistan), by Late Lala Kesar Mal ji and his wife, with a vision to serve authentic Punjabi food. What began as a small, humble kitchen soon became renowned for its rich flavours and traditional cooking.

National leaders like Lala Lajpat Rai, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Indira Gandhi are known to have enjoyed food from the Dhaba, adding to its early reputation for trust and good taste.

During the partition of India, the family relocated to Amritsar, where Kesar Da Dhaba found a new home in the historic old city. Over the decades, the Dhaba evolved, but its soul never changed. The same traditional recipes, pure desi ghee and slow-cooked methods were carefully preserved and passed down through generations.

Today, Kesar da Dhaba stands as a symbol of Amritsar‘s food heritage, not just a restaurant but a place where history, culture and timeless Punjabi flavours come together.
